21 – Found him just Malayan around
Comic Blog
I said to myself last time I posted a comic late that I refuse to be a month behind. So, of course, this one is well over a month behind. I had barely started this comic when I suddenly had the chance to work 19 consecutive 8 hour days. Since I was about to have a month with no work days (strange schedule, I know), I took the opportunity right away. I got most of this comic done, little by little between the multitude of distractions in my apartment and doing my online jobs during that time. I got back to work and was scheduled 40 hours a week, and then we were closed for a week due to the extremely low temperatures outside, and then I went right back to the 40 a week! It’s been such a roller coaster ride that I’ve been doing my online jobs more just to stay in the safe zone, and because of that the comic fell to the back burner since there’s no Patreon support at the moment to fill in the gaps.
I’m certainly not about to stop the comic! I have several stories about this world and these characters that I want to tell, and I keep scaling the obstacles to tell them. These last two months I’ve seen lots of authors on Twitter giving up or putting their work on hiatus, but I’m trying not to get discouraged with how tough the time management of producing a comic turned out to be. I think I’m going to start aiming for a biweekly comic, and if I happen to finish one within a week I might save it as a buffer comic. That way I’ll keep releasing comics at a pretty regular rate, but I won’t feel like I’m constantly failing to meet the deadline I’ve set for myself. With so many work hours I won’t have to worry about rent and bills and stuff, but of course that means my free time will be sucked away. I’m currently setting up a Ko-fi page as well, so hopefully that draws in some dollahs!
Now for the comic itself! Yes, that is a tapir that Rupert found. A Malayan tapir to be exact, hence the goofy title of this comic. I’m not exactly proud of the punchlines of this comic, but there are two of them, so that should equal about one good one … … right?
As I’ve mentioned in previous comics, I really like to keep continuity in background details. You may remember bullet holes and a cannonball impact on the desks in the previous comic that are absent from this one. I didn’t forget! Riley is behind Rupert’s desk, and the bullet holes are just to the left of him. The explosion on top of Rupert’s desk is just behind word balloons, and the marks on Suzette’s desk are all off panel to the left. Suzette and Rupert are in front of Riley’s desk, and his doesn’t have any visible marks from this angle. I’m far from perfect, of course. I almost forgot one of Suzette’s hands until literally just now as I’m about to post the comic!
