5 – Moving on
Comic Blog
It’s been quite a while between comics! Pretty much every webcomic author has that phase, and I always thought “can’t you just, like, make a comic?” That would be fine if I was making this comic back in the days when I had a ton of free time that I spent with video games instead, but instead I’m making it now, when I’ve been working my “day job” a bunch. At one point I was working 6 days a week, and also dogsitting most of the times I should have been sleeping! Now that it’s Summer I’ll be making a concerted effort to get a bunch more comics out.
The original version of this comic was just the four panels with text. As I storyboarded more and more comics, I realized that six panels felt right as the bare minimum that should be done, so I changed up a few of the early ones. For this comic I looked at my original sketch and mentally moved the panels around to see what I could put between them, but additional dialogue felt kind of … wedged in. While mentally moving the panels I noticed that showing Rupert’s reaction would be a nice touch, and the borderless panels came to be! I originally wanted the entire comic to be bound by borders, but I’m okay with breaking my own rules, I suppose.
Oh, and I originally drew Rupert a little bit lower in panel 2 and he looked shirtless aside from the neck line. Funny, but I didn’t want it to come across that way!
