18 – Vending your frustration
Comic Blog
Phew, wow, this comic was delayed! I’ve been continuing to do one ‘day’ job and two online jobs with the comic in my precious spare time, which is also hard given that my current roommate is somewhat boisterous. The important part is that I got it done and didn’t rush it or cut corners! I spent a ton of time on those vending machines – the first in particular – and I think the end result has a better overall look because of it. It’s funny, a friend of my mom’s told me when I was little that my comics had way too much detail to the backgrounds. That definitely stays true in some panels here, but I still wouldn’t remove a thing.
These vending machines are all based on real ones, definitely including the empty springs at the bottom of the candy machine because of people reaching in and stealing all of the lowest items. The fourth one is a store, not some gigantic vending machine.
Once again, because it messes up the formatting otherwise, here’s some closeups I want to show off! I put a ton of time into that first vending machine, so I’m definitely zooming in on that! Rupert ‘working’ is one of my favorite things to draw, so that deserves a closeup, as well as a tag, probably. I’m not sure if the last one is really worth a closeup, but I really love that sheep soaring over the grass on the mug.
